Captain Mark “Sharky” Alexander started diving 23 years ago as a Public Safety diver for the Springfield/Sangamon County ESDA (Emergency Services Disaster Agency) Rescue Squad in Illinois. Sharky continued his diving career throughout the years. He is now active in the following areas:
When Sharky is not diving, he is working as a full-time Paramedic. He also is an instructor for future EMTs and Paramedics. He also instructs students in the areas of Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, and Advanced Hazmat Life Support. He is also on staff with Cardinal Glennon Children Hospital in St. Louis, MO as a Pediatrics Advanced Life Support Instructor. In September 2010, Sharky retired with 20 years in the Illinois Air National Guard. He served four tours in the Middle East - Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Balad, Iraq. He was an F-16 Aircraft Weapons Specialist. In May 2007, Sharky started his company: Sharky’s Underwater Expeditions, LLC. His company focuses on doing more advanced travel, exploration, and specialized training. He specializes in Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR) Training. He can provide medical seminars on remote medical treatment. He has also provided technical and creative help on various diving TV series with KPI Productions in New York. Sharky has had the opportunity to do television work with Capt. Dan Crowell, former owner of the legendary dive boat the “Seeker.” Sharky participated in the Military Channel's episodes of “Quest for Sunken Warships,” “Torpedo Alley,” and “Truk Lagoon.” Sharky also participated in the History Channel's series “Weird US” Episodes “Weird Underworld.” In October 2010, Sharky was involved in the search for Gertrude “Tommy” Tompkins-Silver and her missing P-51D Mustang aircraft. Gertrude's plane came up missing in October 1944 off coast of Los Angeles, CA. Sharky's job on the expedition was Dive Medical Officer and Deep water Diver. In March 2010, Sharky was inducted into the Explorer's Club. He and his wife, Julie, attended the ECAD dinner in NYC. Sharky has given his "Gertrude Tompkin-Sliver" presentation at the St. Louis Chapter and for several other local organizations (Daughters of the American Revolution, and various schools and churches). fo here |
